Bad Reichenhall (bis 1890 Reichenhall) ist eine Große Kreisstadt und Kreisstadt des Landkreises Berchtesgadener Land im Regierungsbezirk Oberbayern. Bereits in römischer Zeit ist die Salzgewinnung nachweisbar. Die Saline Bad Reichenhall vermarktet ihr Reichenhaller Markensalz heute in ganz Deutschland und darüber hinaus. Die Solequellen waren nach dem Stadtbrand 1834 zudem Grundlage für die Entwicklung zum Heilbad, das u. a. über verschiedene Sole-Anwendungen (Bade-Kur, Trinkkur und Aerosol-Kur) verfügt und schließlich zum bayerischen Staatsbad erhoben wurde.
Am 2. Januar 2006 forderte der Einsturz der Eislaufhalle Bad Reichenhall 15 Menschenleben, darunter 12 Kinder und Jugendliche; 34 Menschen wurden zum Teil schwer verletzt. Trotz eines Bürgerentscheides, bei dem sich 53 % der abstimmenden Reichenhaller für die Errichtung einer neuen Eis- und Schwimmhalle an diesem Standort aussprachen, hielt die Stadt an der Planung einer Touristik-Hochschule auf dem Gelände fest, die ab September 2009 als Campus Bad Reichenhall der IUBH School of Business and Management errichtet werden sollte.
