Der Weg zum Teide, Tenerifa
Im Jahre 1799 verbrachte der deutsche Naturforscher Alexander von Humboldt vor seiner mehrjährigen Südamerika-Reise eine Woche zu Forschungszwecken auf Teneriffa. Sein Weg führte von Santa Cruz de Tenerife nach La Laguna, dann entlang der Nordküste über La Orotava hinauf bis zum Gipfel des Teide. Am heutigen Humboldt-Blick (Mirador de Humboldt) gibt es eine Gedenktafel mit folgenden schwelgerischen Worten des Forschers in spanischer Übersetzung:
„Ich habe im heißen Erdgürtel Landschaften gesehen, wo die Natur großartiger ist, reicher in der Entwicklung organischer Formen. Aber nachdem ich die Ufer des Orinoko, die Cordilleren von Peru und die schönen Täler Mexikos durchwandert, muß ich gestehen, nirgends ein so mannigfaches so anziehendes, durch die Verteilung von Grün und Felsmassen so harmonisches Gemälde vor mir gehabt zu haben... Ich kann diesen Anblick nur mit den Golfen von Genua und Neapel vergleichen, aber das Orotava-Tal übertrifft sie bei weitem durch seine Ausmaße und die Reichhaltigkeit seiner Vegetation.“ (Alexander von Humboldt)

The way to the Teide, Tenerife
In 1799 the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt spent a week for research purposes in Tenerife before its multi-year trip to South America. His path led from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to La Laguna, then along the north coast via La Orotava up to the top of Mount Teide. Today Humboldt View (Mirador de Humboldt), there is a plaque with the following voluptuous words of the researcher in Spanish translation:
"I've seen the hot lifebelts landscapes where nature is great, rich in the development of organic forms. But after I walked through the banks of the Orinoco, the Cordilleras of Peru and the beautiful valleys of Mexico, I must confess to have had nowhere so mannigfaches so alluring, so harmonious through the distribution of green and rock masses painting in front of me ...
